CCTV is generally installed for the following reasons:

  • Crime prevention: 
This is where video recordings need to be strong enough for court or police evidence. The law will only accept CCTV footage if facial identification can be clearly seen as if standing on front of the person.

  • Wide monitoring:             
This is best described as in a builders or truck depot yard having wide angled CCTV that can monitor traffic and pedestrians but from a distance ie a roof or CCTV viewing pole were anyone in this yard would be recorded. This would find identifying persons harder and wouldn’t be suitable for use in the above situation.

  • Concealed recordings:
